In the late 14th century, under the patronage of the conqueror Timur, Persian ceramicists used to be taken to Samarkand, where they developed their intricately stunning style of tiled mosaic art. Floral and geometric motifs became the mainstay of this art. The brilliant craftsmanship of these Persian artisans resulted in this deftly crafted blue and white, Timurid architecture across Central Asia (including modern day Uzbekistan) and Iran.

Our Samarkand Diary is our ode to this stunning tiled mosaic art.
